Casio to Release Colorful Calculators Featuring Traditional Japanese Patterns

Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced today the release of the MS-20UC-J commemorative calculator models featuring traditional Japanese patterns to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Casio calculators. 

Guided by the Casio Purpose — “Through the power to put wonder at hand, bring new levels of joy to lives one by one” — Casio has delivered many products and services that transform society. This year marks 60 years since the birth of the first Casio electronic desktop calculator, the 001, in 1965. This pioneering model was the world’s first calculator equipped with a seven-digit constant storage dial and memory function, generating significant demand from business users.

The new MS-20UC-J series is based on the user-friendly MS-20UC model, which is ideal for everyday use, with each design showcasing traditional Japanese patterns that have been cherished in Japan since ancient times:
・The MS-20UC-JRD (Asanoha Red) features a hempen leaf that has grown straight, symbolizing the hope for children to grow up in good health.
・The MS-20UC-JBU (Seigaiha Blue) adopts a wave pattern that evokes the idea of eternity, through the continual, gentle waves.
・The MS-20UC-JWE (Takekago White) is adorned with a pattern reminiscent of a bamboo basket that symbolizes the bonds and connections between individuals through the systematic continuity of its weaving.

These three patterns have been familiar in Japan for centuries and are all considered signs of good luck.

At the same time, Casio is introducing the design calculator Comfy JT-200T, which features a simpler design with a strategically placed solar panel for excellent operability and is made with eco-friendly materials that resist visible scratches, supporting long-term use.

The Comfy JT-200T was developed by carefully re-examining and reorganizing the essential elements required in a calculator as the 60^th anniversary of Casio calculators approached. It features the following characteristics to support long-term use and will be sold on an ongoing basis, not as a limited anniversary edition:

• Solar Panel Placement on the Top Edge
  To eliminate elements unnecessary for calculation, the solar panel, which is typically placed on the operational surface of solar calculators, has been relocated to the top edge of the device, yielding a simpler design.
• Key Font from the Casio Mini
  The calculator adopts the highly visible, soft-impression font originally used in the world’s first personal calculator, the Casio Mini, released in 1972.
• Environmentally Friendly Recycled Plastic and Paper Packaging
  Recycled plastic is used for 59%* of the main body of the calculator.
• Retractable Stand
  When seated at a desk, users can open the stand to create an 8-degree incline for easier operation. When the user is standing, the stand can be retracted flat to improve visibility from above, enhancing adaptability to different usage scenarios.
• Subdued Colors for a Natural, Gentle Ambiance
  Two models are available: Off White and Dark Gray, colors designed to harmonize with various living spaces.

Casio calculators are currently available in over 100 countries, with total shipments over time now surpassing 1.8 billion units. Since June 2023, Casio has switched to paper packaging, reducing plastic usage by approximately 81% and fostering recycling around the world.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of first Casio electronic desktop calculator, the 001, a special website has been launched with the theme, “Count on Casio calculators, now and forever.” Throughout the year, Casio will not only continue to release new products but also develop initiatives that provide customers with opportunities to experience them.
